The adhesive glue used to stick eyelash extensions onto the eyelid have been found to contain an ingredient, formaldehyde, which many people are allergic to without even knowing it until the lashes are applied.
Where users are not allergic to the glue used for eyelash extensions, they are still exposed to the risk of an infection called madarosis. The lashes can trap dirt and bacteria and cause irritation meaning wearers rub or pull on their lashes.
The extensions can also cause traction alopecia of the lashes, resulting in the permanent loss the eyelashes due to the extensive pressure placed on the shaft of the lashes. The hair follicle becomes damaged and lash growth can slow down or cease altogether.
Recently Broadway star Kristen Chenoweth appeared on a chat show wearing sunglasses after admitting she suffered an allergic reaction to the formaldehyde in the glue used on her eyelash extensions.
